The Empire State is one of the top destinations on Valentine’s Day in New York City. Valentine’s Day is the only day that couples are allowed to get married in the building, but even those who aren’t tying the knot that day can head up to the top and gaze out over the city together in this iconic romantic atmosphere. Everyone knows that they need to grab their tickets to The Nutcracker when December rolls around, however there are some other great Holiday shows traditional and new that are worth viewing this season. Here is our playbill to this holiday season, and the shows that are worth a trip to the theatre!

In New York there are great traditional selections like the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, which features the precise and leggy dancing of the legendary Rocketts. This show definitely is a tradition for many with numbers like living nativity and wooden toy soldiers it is worth the visit to Radio City Music Hall! If you are stopping in to the city to see either of the Rocketts we suggest you stay at The Blakely New York as is a great hotel tucked right in Midtown Manhattan!

For a taste of something different, and a little less pricey, we suggest the funny twist on the classic Dickens,  A Christmas Carol.  A Broken Christmas Carol has taken the characters like Ebenezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley and re-written them with modern touch and cynical humor that flips the show on its head.  This is not only for Christians, any religion will find the Jewish characters bringing a new point of view to this Christmas story comical. Held at the Walt Whitman Theater in Brooklyn a great hotel just nearby is the Trump Soho.

Don’t Miss A Christmas Story the Musical that has come to the Lunt Fontanne Theatre this season. It has all the BB Guns, pink bunny pajamas and triple-dog-dares you need this season, plus it brings new life to the beloved cult classic movie of Ralphie’s 1940’s Christmas story. If there is a ‘heart’ of New York City The Chatwal may as well be located next to the aorta, it’s views extend over 44th and Times square, and is just a steps from the Theatre District. So although this is a luxurious purchase for your vacation stay, we can say from experience tourists save a lot of money in cab fare! And since Sandy Has wiped out a decent amount of cabs, there is no need for you to scramble for the ones remaining!

Other than the location this hotel has a bold, sleek look that is dominated by red upholstery and lighting. The effect has a macho personality with the suave that we can only imagine Brad Pitt would fit into very well.  And if in fact you do run across Mr. Pitt at the hotel it may just be in the The Lambs Club Bar and Restaurant that serves vintage drinks and the classic american cuisine.  Praised for the 5 star quality of their staff and  small boutique feel. Our only criticism is that the non- suite rooms are rather cramped, however The Chatwal Hotel has a bold personality that is clean, elegant and worth an extended stay.

What is the most hip, posh place to stay in New York City? Well, the A-List Celebrities are designating The Gansevoort as the ‘it’ hotel of 2012.
